Posted - 04 Sep 2004 : 19:37:55 Attacking Washington is suicide. Everything else you said is pretty much true, but I would like to add a little more.
The west is where most of the fighting is going to happen, though not nescesarily(sp) very large battles. Taking Kentucky and Missouri is vital to south because it gives them (hopefully) two more militia, but the West is also valuable to the Union because of the large amount of 2-value recruitment cities. I usually stay on the defense in the West, but I like to attack Missouri alot. The river advantages and entrenchment are a necessity. The Union must expect to lose alot of troops attacking there.
Then theres the East. Most of your veterans should go to Richmond or near there. Try to hold Fredricksburg for as long as possible. If the Union trys to go around, retreat to Richmond. When you feel you have a large enough force (by the time I do this in the games I play, my army is pure veteran/crack infantry), attack his main army. When he retreats to Washington (here's the important part), DO NOT ATTACK HIM. Instead, go around to Harper's Ferry and then to Baltimore (best if done in one turn). From there, gobble up New York. Be sure to create a force of militia (and maybe some veterans as well) in Richmond. As long as your in the general vicinity of Washington, he won't attack due to the fear of losing it. I find this to be the perfect strategy. |

I think it's a good strategy to keep the initiative. i.e. You have to try to confuse the Northern Player by changing your battlefront constantly. Attack him on different places. But avoid the region in the region of Washington, as he will react on that by renforcing DC with too many troops. Attack recruit cities with value 2 or more. Keep his attention away from Washington. But try to build up your army in and around Richmond slowly but sure. Once you are strong enough over there, you can try to hit Washington. That 's the way it worked for me some times.
Enjoy gaming ;-) |

Posted - 02 Apr 2004 : 14:23:50 Wel as I went on playing the game I realized, that it not that easy to win the game even for the union ....
but it still woul be interesting to read about the way one intends to win the game, for union or for the confederation.
So what are your first goals in the game?
